Close call

So there was just a knock on the door, and I went down to see, and there was no one on the doorstep any more but a taxi-man with his car. "Taxi?" he said. "No," I said, "thanks anyway." And while I was politely apologising for not being the person who'd phoned him, Barry slipped out between my legs and was away. Straight onto the road and under the wheels of the taxi. But the guy started his engine and that scared him, further out into the road; where he changed his mind, turned round and went back into the house. With me chasing vainly in his wake all the way.

Which is why I don't want to let him out. Stupid bloody cat...

Draft

I do try to be a good consumer. In my terms, this means avoiding supermarkets and chain stores where possible, and encouraging local stores by all means within my ability.

Today I have been turned away from the independent local pharmacy, because the pharmacist was on her lunchbreak and the tilljockey wasn't allowed to sell me Ibuprofen in any significant quantity or strength; and from the sub-post office, because their system refused to accept the address on the parcel I had to send.

So I went into town and dealt with both these issues, at businesses competent to do so. Snarl. Also, this involved me passing through other shops on the way home, and I have bought an unreasonable quantity of stuff I don't really need, just because I was in that kind of mood. People close should be aware, there may be more cakes soon.

In other news: I have finished the first draft of the SF story! Yay! Six pages today, and a mad gallop to the end. This makes me happy, perhaps to the point where I may just go downstairs and finish this bottle of wine. One thing for sure, I'm not going to read the thing today. I may just send it out to people unread, let others give a verdict before I even think about my own...

Chaz'z play

Okay, this is definite now (barring disasters, obviously), so those of you in striking-range of Tyneside, please take note:

my play, 'A Cold Coming', will take place on April 3rd-5th at the Library Theatre, South Shields.

More - tediously much more, I expect - later. For now, just make a note. Being outwith the country within that bracket would be frowned upon. Rigorously.
