Gah!

There is, I am sure, no good day on which to wake up and find your kitchen sink has mysteriously blocked itself utterly overnight.

Today, though? When I can't find the plunger, and I've run out of chemical unblocker, and I have to make jams and pickles and hence I need to wash and sterilise jars and then wash sticky sugary pots and utensils? So not a good day...

[And I have now been to town and come home with chemical unblocker that is doing nothing at all, and I still can't find the plunger, and I'm starting to look at the U-bend and wonder if I have the tools & technique to unscrew it; and I'm supposed to be working, damn it. And making jams and pickles. And I'm not.]

I've been in that movie. It had a happy ending eventually, involving a last-minute rescue by a couple of good-looking plumbers with a power drain auger, but I can honestly say I don't want to do Kitchen Sink II: The Return of the Clog.

I sympathise! A blocked U-bend is no fun at all. I try to remember to pour a kettle-full of boiling water down the sink every now and again - that might help, if the chemicals aren't doing the trick. Good luck!
