Bleeargh

Hey, I know, let's all be sick over Xmas...

Nah, nothing too awful at this end, thanks; just one of those coldy fluey chest-infection things, so that I've spent my mornings feeling magnificently, publicly sorry for myself, and then got better through the day by the administration of teh alcohols, and then coughed and wheezed all night and started again in the morning. Hey-ho. (Right now it's a quarter past eight a.m. and I can't breathe at all, and I'm sitting here thinking "It is too early for a hot toddy, isn't it? I mean, it just is, right...?")

In other news, the great [livejournal.com profile] matociquala says nice things about "Bridge of Dreams", even if she would personally have started it pretty much at the end. That's okay; we all find different stories in the same material. Even trying to tell the same story, we'd end up in different places. All fiction is an act of autobiography; we give ourselves away with every choice we make (which has something to say, I think, to [livejournal.com profile] jaylake's interesting post about stepping into the blade).

It's never too early for a hot toddy. It's always five o'clock somewhere.

I'm glad you didn't start "Bridge of Dreams" at the end. The first few chapters are so painfully beautiful; would have been a shame not to have them.

Well, see, that's how I feel about it: that storytelling is not always dependent on story, that there is always room for a little pain, a little beauty. Others insist on the primacy of plot, the need always to keep moving, but not me.

what you need is becherovka, wierd eastern european drink, highly alcoholic & doubles as the best cough medicine I have ever used.

Yes, please.
