Rotten Row
Jun. 13th, 2013 02:55 pmA few years back, I was in London for the day, trying among other things to catch up with
mevennen. I was at a con; she was at a bookstore; there was half the city in between us.
I walked it, because I do that: cities live beneath my feet, streets and parks are only real when I've paced them out.
The route from A to B took me through Hyde Park, and I realised suddenly that for the first time in my life, I was walking Rotten Row. So I thought a little about that. And then I came out of the park and into the streets again, and almost the first thing I saw was my first cycle rickshaw. So I thought a little about that.
By the time I got to the bookstore, Liz wasn't there. In fact she was halfway across London, heading for the con to try to find me.
We missed each other entirely that day, but I did keep on thinking; and by the time I got back to
jemck's place, I had this notion for an SF novella firmly lodged in my head.
And I wrote it, and PS Publishing produced it in a limited edition; and now we're doing the e-book through Book View Cafe.
With a brand new cover, courtesy of the extraordinary Mark Ferrari.
The book should be out in late July; I'll keep you updated on that. Meantime, have a spoiler, whet your whistle, let me tease you with a tickle. It looks like this:
