Big tickets

Karen and I went to the eye doctor today. (This seems to be mostly what they say around here, where we would say "optician". Dentists too are doctors over here, I am just sayin'.)

Apparently my blood pressure was kinda high, but I was kinda tense; I don't like eye tests. And how long have eye tests involved blood pressure checks, anyway? Mind you, I caused general surprise in all directions when I said that I'd been having my eyes tested for fifty years in the UK and nobody had ever put drops into 'em. The nice eye doctor man said he'd been practising for over forty years and he's always used eye drops. Apparently we are once again two countries divided by a common ocean.

Anyway: two pairs of glasses for me, one for Karen. Should have 'em in a couple of weeks.

We had lunch in Mountain View, then came home and K ordered air tickets for WFC and thereafter, to prove that our common ocean is uncommonly crossable. We'll be in the UK from 31st Oct; Karen's staying till the 10th, me till the 17th. Brighton for WFC, Newcastle thereafter; maybe Cambridge too, or points elsewhere? It'd be nice to see people (he murmured, a little pathetically) (he addd, a little parenthetically).

And now it is hours'n'hours since the eyedrops, and my eyes still find the outside too bright and the computer a little gaudy. I shall go back out none the less, and work on the laptop in the clubhouse. Possibly with a beer. I have spent moneys; I need beers.
