The Meanings of Names

desperance...So I was out with m'young friend from Spain, and it was obviously my pseudo-avuncular duty to interrogate her about the luscious new boyfriend, so I did; and he is apparently a half-Portuguese communist soldier, and his name is Eneko.
"Coo," I said, "is that a name?"
"Yes," she said, "it's quite common, actually. It's Basque, and it means 'falling off a cliff'."
Which isn't exactly borne out by a little casual Googling, but on the other hand, who trusts Google? She was top of her class every year that she studied Basque, so she gets my vote. Besides which, it's just so gorgeously absurd, who could resist...?

Whose meaning translates more as fiery/burning.
