Okay, that's a silly thing to say. Everywhere in this house is a book. But somewhere is a specific book - Fuchsia Dunlop's recent book on Hunan cooking, since you ask - and I want it, and I cannot find it. Which is (a) ridiculous, because it's a relatively recent arrival, and I know where it was because I was reading it; and (b) disappointing, because half the point of all yesterday's disruptions was to uncover all the other places where it might be, and I have done that, and it is not in any of them; and (c) frustrating, because I need to cook Chinese on Friday and I had intended to cook out of that book and that's starting to look problematic, in the way of meaning doubtful.
Of course I can cook out of Fuchsia Dunlop's other book, and give them Szechuan again; or out of any one or more of a dozen other books; or just out of my head by now, mix'n'match and see what happens; but I wanted to cook from that book and I can't find it and...
