Starting from cold
Jan. 6th, 2009 09:34 amBrrr. My fingers and feet are freezing, and my brain .. won't. Brain.
Besides, I'm short on incentive. Yesterday I went through two short stories, cutting and reworking, in the Lit & Phil and here at home, on paper and at the keyboard. It was fun.
Today? Same thing. Same stories. Not so fun.
One is being urgently waited for by an editor; the other is to be read aloud. Tonight. It's hard to prioritise; I keep falling through the gap.
Also, neither of them has a last line yet. Last lines are like titles: if you don't find them early, they're the very devil. So many lines will do, and so very few are right...
Also, when Barry sits on my knee while I'm working, he likes to rest his chin on the keyboard and watch the cursor fly. Which is all very well with the desktop, but with the Laptop of Heavenly Perfection his chin lands neatly on the touchstone. Mousepad. Whatever the thing's called. See my cursor fly, cat-impelled...
Coffee, I think. And procrastination. Yes.
