desperancePity poor Ben Macallan: he will only ever be two-thirds of a story told. He is, as it were, the Great Beast 66.6.
First came his memoirs: Dead of Light and Light Errant, which should have been followed by Night Fantastic, but the series was cancelled before the third book could appear. That was back in the mid-nineties, and people still ask me when I'll ever write it.
And now we are in the mid-now, and Ben has turned his hand to fiction: first Desdaemona and then Pandaemonium. Which should have been followed by Daemonogamy, but we just heard this morning that the series has been cancelled, so...
No blame attaches; no publisher ever made a blind red cent of honest profit out of publishing me, in all the thirty-odd years they've been doing it. However, none the less and even so. It's really not the news I hankered for.
I am ... kind of tired of all the bad newses, one way and another. Also it's getting harder to squee with my friends over their good newses, and I hate that.
