What exactly is it that we vacate: our jobs, our homes? Our lives? It seems such an odd usage. It speaks only to what we leave behind, where in fact all our talk is of where we go and what we do there, the memories that we fetch back. Luggage, cargo, transport. Nothing empty or vacated.

Mostly I think Karen and I plan to huddle in the warm with books and wine and friends and such. That's worth going away for. Meanwhile the boys will enjoy many visitors, huddling in this warm house with DVDs and wine and such. They think that's worth our going away for.

In related news, halfway through a major surprise!root canal may not actually be the best time to go away. I rather think the temporary filling has collapsed into the (ho, ho) vacated tooth. I thought I was Dun Vicodin, but that may not be the case; I shall be taking everything with me, in the way of pain relief. Analgesics In America, as it were. You get no pun relief around here.
