I had half a thought of framing this as a public service announcement, in that ongoing spirit of we-do-this-so-you-don't-have-to - but in fairness to absolutely everybody who reads this blog, I am tolerably certain that there is no one amongst you who would need telling that a charcoal chimney full of blazing coals is liable to feel hot.

In fairness to myself, I didn't need telling either, I worked it out for myself. I put on my leather gauntlets and everything. And I only picked it up for five seconds max, just long enough to invert it and spill the coals out into the grill.

Thing is, though, the handle of the thing is entirely broken, so I did have to pick it up by the cylinder itself.

Hereinafter, I shall be referring to aforementioned items of protective wear as my scorched leather gauntlets.

They did do their very best to prevent my fingers getting similarly scorched, honestly they did. But - yeah. Hotter than anticipated, that chimney.

Now might be a good time to think about buying a replacement chimney with a viable handle, because ouchie.

In interesting follow-up news, I'm doing everything else wrong also.
