Well, this is cute. I'm not building anything upon it (for when I got back from the theatre, Mac made a dive out the door that scared me rigid till I got a hold on his scruff; and Barry was jumpy as hell, and nothing looked good), but right now Mac is in my lap, being purry and sleepy and cute, while Barry is curled up just the other side of the keyboard and also pretty much asleep, so they're within two feet of each other and thoroughly relaxed about it on both sides. Which is good.

Mmm? Theatre? Oh - "Charley's Aunt". Which I hadn't seen for, oh, thirty-five years or so. Maybe closer to forty. Thoroughly enjoyed it, thanks.

Mac has wriggled, so that the bulk of his weight is slipping between my legs, and any moment now - but no! He has saved himself, and scrambled up! And gone onto the desk, and woken Barry with a nose in his ear - but Barry has not run away! But Mac is on the verge of Going Elsewhere, and Barry doesn't know whether to follow him or not! And now Mac has walked to the other side of Barry, and is sitting down back-to-back, and Barry doesn't know what the hell to do...!

But - if neither one of them is quite as relaxed as before - they are actually sitting in a touching-each-other position, tho' they don't have to look at each other in the doing of it. Is this good? I think this is good. I'd take a photo, only the camera's downstairs and one of them would be sure to follow me down, and then the other would come to, and there would be jumpiness and uncertainty such as rules our days...

Whoops. There goes Mac. And Barry has gone to the edge of the desk and - yup. There goes Barry. Sigh...

Yes, that's very good. Sitting back to back shows trust and lack of aggression. It's very good.

This sounds good, very good. Thanks for the progress reports.

I once had two cats who never voluntarily came within two feet of each other during the ten years they co-existed. They just ignored each other. I longed for them to curl up together. But it was not to be.

This all sounds like the best side of good. All of the cat dominance stuff in our household has always taken place when we're not home. Then, they settle down when we get home.

And curling up together? Even so briefly? This soon? Very very good.

Aww. Cute and promising, both. Some time they'll even stay curled up like that for time it takes to write a long post. Or a short story, or something.
