Goings out

Last night, I went out to see Michael Marshall (Smith), reading from his new book. Magnificently managed to go out without any form of money whatsoever, nor means to obtain any; so when Mike called across the bookshop to enquire whether I fancied a pint afterwards, I had to call back that he'd have to treat me, thereby occasioning laughter amongst the multitudes.

But he did, and it was good, and we talked to interesting new people who also bought me beer, thank you kindly.

This morning, I went out into the back yard, which is entirely a pleasure at the moment; every time I do it, I just want to spend more time out there. It wouldn't take much to pull it into shape, I just never seem to find the little that it needs. Still, the elephant garlic is just sprouting, in pursuit of the regular garlic and the shallots which have a head start already; and the rhubarb crown has put up a second leaf, and all is well and lovely.

And now I am going to go out to the library, in another and hopefully less abortive attempt to do some work; and later this evening I will go there again, to launch "River of the World" officially upon the literosphere. As if it cared. Sigh...

The MMS gig was one of these top-secret events the local bookshops specialise in, was it?

*sigh*

Not that I wasn't having fun elsewhere, but...
