I need more friends.

It's about this time of day that I've read all through my friends page, and I keep hitting the refresh button and nothing happens, nobody's posted anything new and I have to go back to work unrefreshed. Conclusion? Obviously, I need more friends.

You could each of you recommend one of your own friends, whom you think I might enjoy and/or benefit from reading? C'mon, introduce me. I don't expect 'em to friend me back, I just need more good people to read...

ask and ye shall receive ;-)

I love your journal, or do I really love your cats? And don't forget the food!

My wife, Lis Riba, blogs at http://www.ribarambles.org/ which is syndicated to LJ as http://syndicated.livejournal.com/riba_rambles/

If we do this, by the way, are we basically preventing you from publishing your paying work? Like, if we read a newspaper obit about a writer found starved to death in his flat, body half-eaten by a bunch of somewhat lonely but well-fed cats, will that be our faults?

Yay! I didn't realise Lis blogged; it'll be really interesting, to get an alternate view... *snigger*

And yes, your faults entirely. As the cats crunch on my bones, pining for some proper fatty flesh...

It's annoying when that happens, isn't it? How can friends be so disobliging?

I've been reading you for ages, but I don't recommend me, unless you want posts about hens as well as cats ;-)

(Shameless self promotion, but that way I don't offend any friends--or all of them.)

Of course I want posts about hens, how could I not? I did think of keeping hens myself, but they'd eat all my herbs and argue with the cats, so probably best not...

Thanks for the prompt!

Hens are considerably less work than cats--and more usefully productive. But they eat everything--good for the vegetable leftovers from the kitchen, disasterous for the newly-sprouted potato plants, the carrots, the... anything not protected by border guards with alsatians, watchtowers manned with trained snipers, razor wire.... Hens don't eat nettles; I do.

Cats eat herbs.

Cats eat herbs.

Not so much, I find. Some, to be sure; but I grow regular grass (well, I allow regular grass to grow) and the boys tend to prefer that. I used to grow catnip, and Misha-cat and I would play a game, where I would hide it (in its pot) somewhere in the back yard, and she would come out and track it down, and then she'd eat it, and then she'd go back indoors to be sick. She really liked this game. Me, not so much...

If you had been a good boy and made Shelter boring, I would have spent part of my Designated Relaxation Time this morning making a long lj post about writing short stories. So in this instance, your insufficiency of reading materials is directly your own fault.

Oh, damn - I'm so sorry! *makes mental note, be duller...*

Please do make post about short stories, though. When you're ready, obviously; but I love short stories, and am endlessly fascinated by other writers' approach(es) to them.

Oh dear. I wouldn't know who to recommend. I have a couple of writers you don't have, some entertaining editors and agents, a couple very controversial posters, some weirdos, all good and interesting people, but I have no idea who you would like to read.

Alas, today no one seems to be posting. I'm trying to avoid writing and there is just nothing to read.

Ah, maybe it's universal. And it is hard, isn't it, to make those "oh, you would like these" decisions? On the other hand, of course, you could make suggestions and trust me to make the decisions - or at least trust me not to blame you if I didn't like reading 'em, because that would be entirely my own fault and I do not go into this blindly...

Well... I like reading
Nancy Fulda [livejournal.com profile] nancyfulda who is an author and editor,
The Friendly Atheist, [livejournal.com profile] friendly_atheis who is very insightful and entertaining, not very controversial,
The Bad Astronomer [livejournal.com profile] badastronomy an astronomer and author, very entertaining and educational,
[livejournal.com profile] otherjoseph a young gay photographer in the Philippines I've known online for several years. His other LJ, [livejournal.com profile] jaig, is a personal one about living with parents that hate him, but this one has his amazing photos of life in the PI,
[livejournal.com profile] icarusancalion used to be a Budhist nun and has some interesting views on odd things,
[livejournal.com profile] iibnf a very odd Australian that seldom fails to entertain, has lots of odd critters and finds the strangest things on the Internet,
[livejournal.com profile] bakebakebake guess what this community is about?

I guess boredom is going around today. I want to be entertained, too.

Most definitely [livejournal.com profile] theferrett. (And [livejournal.com profile] veronica_milvus, and I like her.

[livejournal.com profile] boobiebar doesn't post often, but when she does it's always entertaining.
