Damn my eyes
Aug. 26th, 2010 04:13 pmI have the soul of a copy-editor, and a proofreader's unfortunate eyesight. I can find misprints and inconsistencies in any piece of printed text: promotional copy or restaurant menus or whatever comes to hand.
I have tended, more and more as this effect is exaggerated, to blame the times we live in - but that may just be laziness on my part, seeking the easy excuse.
I was talking t'other day about Nuttall's Standard Dictionary, from 1930?
I just found a misprint in it.
Its definition of "rapt" - absorbed; in an ecstacy.
Good grief. I thought the internet had invented that particular solecism; but no. It's been with us for eighty years at least.
