The more books I pack? The fewer books I pack. Isn't that delightful?

Unpacking, on request:

The further I get with this whole book-packing malarkey, the more boxes I fill, the more rigorous I become in choosing what to take. Which is why I'm going to have to go back to the beginning when I'm done, and unpack everything, and filter it again for consistency with my later harder line.

These are still my books, each and every one of them, but even so. Do I want to keep this? has come down more and more to am I going to reread this? - as of course it should, by and large - and more and more, the answer is a kind of squirmy no, I guess not, probably.... So it stays on the shelf, for scavengers to pick over passing on or giving away.

I am still keeping some that are more by way of souvenir than resource - but only some. And some that I still hope to read at some point, and some that are just downright valuable, and so forth. But for the most part, I'm developing a default refusal, you shall not pass. While screaming over my shoulder at myself, fly, you fool!

I am about to move to a country that celebrates National Popcorn Day. Apparently. (I don't think it's official.) (Which is something.) (Maybe.)

Heh. Every now and then someone asks me if the Ben Macallan books (Desdaemona et seq) are YA. I'm usually a little evasive, in that sense that says "Well, technically not, not as such - but your adolescent reader ought to love it. Determinedly teenage rebellious narrator, kick-ass girl with more agency than you'd dare shake a stick at, motorbikes and leathers and monsters and violence and no time to draw breath, what's not to love?"

Ahem. I just wrote a frantic sex scene for the sequel, enacted on the rug 'cos neither of them has time or patience enough to get through to the bedroom. It may be Not Safe For Adults, but hell yes, this is YA absolutely as it ought to be.
