Does anybody know if the egg comes before the chicken the papery case of the tomatillo grows before the fruit inside swells to occupy it? Because either that's happening, or else I'm growing empty tomatillo-cases, like little hollow balloons. It's quite endearing, but probably not nutritious at this point.

In other news, I love my garden at this time. We have eaten our first harvest of beans, and I desperately need to cut more; also sugar snap peas. There will be a plethora of tomatoes of different hues, red and yellow and black; there will be a crop of chillies. There is at least one cucumber, which I shall pickle solo if no others come to join it. The turtles like our broccoli leaves; I am going to see tonight if we like them ourselves, as the plant doesn't seem much inclined to broccle.

Also, hummingbird. The attractive flowers have barely begun to poke their uncertain first leaflets through the letterbox above the soil, but nevertheless: hummingbird. Actually it came to check out the lemon tree, and seemed to go away disappointed; but it did come. (And there is nothing disappointing, little dude, about my lemon tree! It is positively erupting with blossoms at this time, and is forming its first teeny lemonlets of the year...)

All the other news that's fit to print is work-related or else technical in nature, and belongs in a post where I'm not going look-at-my-lovely-garden! So perhaps I'll post again. Meantime, look at my lovely garden... (Not literally, no. Not yet. Perhaps there will be photos sometime; but the fruitful portion is all in one corner and around the margins. The rest is dandelion lawn, for now.) (Do people have garden ponds, in California? Or is that just stupid? I only ask because dragonflies. We have had huge dragonflies, and all I know about the dragonfly lifestyle requires water, and we're some way from the Bay...)
