Jul. 27th, 2006 10:03 pmFurther to recent discussions of small hurts doing major damage (and yes, the graze on my shoulder is still kind of weird, and as it happens weeping as I speak, but I do think it's getting better, thanks. Slowly. I've noticed this, that now I'm older minor cuts & abrasions take longer to mend):
892: Sigurd I of Orkney. Sigurd the Mighty conquered much of northern Scotland, which brought him into conflict with Maelbrigte of Moray. Sigurd defeated Maelbrigte in 892 and strapped his decapitated head to his saddle as a sign of triumph. As he rode, however, Maelbrigte's tooth rubbed against Sigurd's leg causing a wound which turned septic and Sigurd died of the poison.
Isn't that fabulous? Found in Wikipedia's List of Unusual Deaths, which is kind of joyful all round.
And half my relatives live in Orkney...

You need electricity
Date: 2006-07-27 10:02 pm (UTC)Scientists have found how the body harnesses the power of electricity to heal cuts and grazes - an effect they manipulated to speed up wound healing dramatically.
In what amounts to the modern rediscovery of an old medical curiosity, the finding raises hopes for revolutionary treatments to patch up injured patients in hours instead of days.

Date: 2006-07-28 12:56 pm (UTC)For the wound -- I know I have a good poultice recipe, and I bet you have all the ingredients in your cupboard. I'll look for it when I get back from the theatre.
I used it when I got a nasty cut in the subway; they couldn't figure out why the antibiotics weren't working, so I dug out the recipe and put the poultice on externally and then took echnicea internally and it healed.
In the meantime, take a 2 capsules of echinacea 3X day for 7 days -- it'll boost the immunities and help prevent infection.
