After making a careful list for shopping, it would help if I remembered to take the list with me to the shops. Rather than having to go back to the shops a second time. Given how far away the bloody shops are. Etc.

Also, keep vanilla pods in the store-cupboard. Vanilla pods in the Chinese supermarket, which is closed on Bank Holidays, which is today: 99p. Vanilla pods in the posh deli, which is open: £3.10.

That's where my old and tired pods retire to. Wouldn't want that naughty sugar leeching all the goodness from a fresh one...

In my case, it's where the emergency vanilla pod lives: you can always fish it out and rinse it (or not) if required, and in the meantime it isn't wasting its sweetness on the desert air.
