The hand that holds the food-spoon holds their hearts.

I guess I had always known it. Perhaps I had been foolish enough to hope, that perhaps they kept a little simple affection for my self.

Hah! Here I am, back at home after long away, and do they come and snuggle through the night as they were wont to do? They do not. Hide nor hair of 'em did I see, all through the long lonely watches of the night.

The sitters are leaving today, and the little beasts are practically packing to go with 'em.

Welcome home. Your boys will come round... They are most likely sulking over being abandoned. ;)

That's cats for you. Plus, of course, they have to punish you.

Don't worry. At about four in the morning tomorrow they will come and stand on your head and drop dead rodents on you.

Hearts? They have hearts? I thought they were cats...

Which is not to say that you haven't been missed; welcome home!

Ah, but you must first be thoroughly snubbed and put in your place. You must be brought to understand that you are, in this case, the abandoner, not the abandonee, and that they had to cling (*cling*, I say) to the strangers for their very survival. Your heart must be wrung with pity for the pathetic puddins. The sooner you give each of them the chance to turn their back on you in a very pointed way, the sooner they will relent.

But, you knew that. :)

I did. Of course. It's true. I'm just, y'know, whimperin'. As any man might, under the lash...

Well, and so you must. They can't spurn your advances if you don't make any. It would be cruel of you to maliciously withhold your advances, so let's hear those gusty whimpers. Woe is you, etc etc.

Oh, they'll come around. Warm snuggly feelings get into operational mode when hunger sets in.
