Another day, another reason not to
Jan. 1st, 2009 11:57 amI've just reached that point where I realise just how crap this new story is, how it doesn't even match the brief, how it has no interior logic and no safe structure and whoo, watch it come down...
Kinda like the stacks of stuff in my kitchen, where I heap Ossa upon Pellion until something falls to the floor, whereupon I burst into tears and sulk.
What I really want, I want a day off: I want to read Patrick O'Brian and watch movies and just not work, not think about working, for this one day of the year. And it's too late already. I have drip-dripped my way through one more page of this dreary story, so if I stopped now it'd just be pathetic, a wasted working day. Also, I have failed to discover what the word is for a Chinese lunch pail: y'know, those stainless-steel compartment/dishes that stack three or four deep within a connecting handle? There is an English word, or else an adoption from Chinese, and I have known it hitherto, but I have lost it entirely; I keep calling them tiffin-boxes, which is right in one way but utterly wrong contextually. Gah.
Also, I find myself sitting here wondering if it was irony or snark, that 2008 - which seems collectively to have gone down as a pretty bloody miserable year, all told - should have been literally the longest year of our lives, bearing in mind that leap-second that they snuck in at the end there, just to drag it out a little bit longer...?
