Heh. Every now and then I turn to the refrigerator and find myself unexpectedly nose to nose with Barry, who has taken shelter up there from the Awful Boy.

We have a conversation about this, and then I lift him down.

And every time, I'm a bit amazed by how heavy he is; so this morning I carried him upstairs and we stepped on the scales, we did.

We are a five-kilo cat, we are: eleven whole pounds of Bazza. And this without his actually looking fat at all, which is why he surprises me every time I have to lift him. But then, I remember being surprised how heavy he was when he moved in, when he was a bone-thin two-kilo cat. His brain is of densium, is what it is, and his bones are of lead. As opposed to Mac's, which are a kind of rigorous polystyrene; he practically floats.

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] moshui Daniel Fox has been Scalzi'd on the Whatever (how nice, that one can say such things and know that they do make sense despite all appearances), and also Kari'd at Strange Horizons. Which is all good, and now would be just the perfect time to go buy his book, don't you think...? That's spooky: Lucy is also surprisingly dense. We have speculated that she was fabricated from a black hole. And given her recently acquired habit of scavenging in the kitchen we have taken to calling her 'Barry'.

Heh. It's all further evidence: all black cats are the same cat, but some are even samer than others. Or do I mean samelier?

There are a couple of breed descriptions (Abyssinians being one of them) which include a line about being heavier than they appear. Possibly it's something to do with having a lot of muscle as opposed to fat?

Heh. That's exactly what he says. "I'm not fat!" he says. "It takes a lot of muscle, to shift this mass around. And muscle weighs more than fat. QED and ergo, I'm not fat!"

Actually, I interpret loosely; he mostly says "I can haz bacon/kibble/whatyougot?"

Beth's cat, Whisky, was a good 10 kilos before he went off to become a farm cat! And he wasn't fat either, just BIG and SOLID.

Though his sister, Bailey, was the smallest skinniest cat ever.

It all adds up to what I've thought for a long time: Catz iz WEIRD. Give me a dog any day.

Ten kilos? Good grief. That makes a featherweight of Baz. Good thing, too; if he was ten kilos, there would be no lifting him off the fridge, he'd have to make his own way down...

(But then, if he was ten kilos, perhaps he wouldn't feel quite the need to hurtle out of reach when Mac assaults him? Tho' he's heavier than Mac by a distance anyway. Just a big wuss, alas...)

I'd stopped by Forbidden Planet for the latest Linnea Sinclair and, lo, there were two copies of a book by one Daniel Fox in the new book display. Shortly afterward, they had one copy less.
