By the pricking of my thumbs

O God this ruine, this corps I own as mine...

This is not good, this body thing. The one thumb aches, the scarred one, and I expect it always will; the other is tingling now. Pins and needles in my hand - in that half of my left hand - is the horror-sign for me. I forbode it weeks ago, and here it is.

And yes, I do have an appointment with my physio - but that's not till the week after next, she's a busy woman (she runs the Sports Injury Clinic, and I do love going in there, oh-so-sporty me: mingling with professionals in the waiting-room, a vast American basketballer on the one hand and a Premiership footballer on the other...). Meantime - well, nothing I can do but fret and tingle, so I'm doing that. Vampires may sparkle; hundreds-and-thousands may sprinkle; I tingle. Next thing you know, I shall become prickly. Then you'll be sorry.

Oddly, I was getting this in my left arm and hand yesterday (which explains why I am late with that which I owe you). Boots do a Tension Headache Relief tablet which has a muscle relaxant and is thus good at releasing the neck tension that can sometimes add to RSI flares. And -- don't laugh -- juggling is good for loosening things, too (something to do with the range of motion).
And alcohol, of course, is always good.

I have been known to sleep cross-wise on the bed with my head and arms dangling gracelessly over the ends. Although I look somewhat corpse-like - not helped by my natural deathly pallor - it does help when my hands flare up.

If it's only in one hand you could try the dangle and see if it works? (and in no way is this medical advice so feel free to ignore the heck out of me.)

(Some people inherit fortunes, I get carpal tunnel. Most everyone in my family has it.)

Aha! When I read in bed, I get tingles in my left hand until I dangle it over the edge of the bed. My sister, who knows some medical stuff has pointed out that this is neck related and using one less pillow to prop myself up stops the tingling starting.

So - desperance obviously needs to use one less pillow when writing! No?

Or be careful with his hand positioning, get one of those ergonomic keyboards? I'm a terribly sloppy typist until my hands flare up :D Sometimes if you give them a good long dangle and don't do anything silly to aggravate it that helps.

I have an ergonomic keyboard. Wasn't able to use it for a couple of months, while the computer was sick; I was just using the laptop then (with its very small flat keyboard). It's possible that I built up some cumulative trouble in that period. I dunno...
