I just made a momentous decision: not going to the Lit & Phil to work today. Staying home. *nods*

The Lit & Phil has become my default place for working in recent weeks, just because I get so much more done there, without the distractions. Or largely because, at any rate. Also, I just like it, in ways that I do not, I cannot like my house. Also, it's in town so I can shop on my way home. That's always good.

But. Not today.

Frankly, I kinda want to stay home for ever. More immediately, the bad thought crossed my mind that if I didn't go to Eastercon, the money I saved would pay for the next two months' physio treatment. That's the kind of sum I really wish I didn't do, but I do it all the time. Usually I do it the other way round, though, spending money rather than saving it: "hell," my head says, "that's barely the price of a pint of beer...!" or "I've got that unexpected hundred quid this month, that'll cover it..." Trouble with that last, of course, is that the same hundred quid ends up covering two or three hundred quid's worth of expenses. Numbers are ... very flexible, in my head. Not so much on my bank statements, damn it.

*stays home*

> That's the kind of sum I really wish I didn't do

Lately that's been a great plus for stock market investments: you can look at the most ridiculous purchase and say "Hah, it's only a fraction of what I lost yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that - what a bargain!"

So that's good. Sort of.

My thoughts about things like Eastercon more often tend to drift towards 'If I don't go to Eastercon then I can stay at home!' A little circular I admit.

We're driving up tomorrow, hoping to be at the con by 4ish (especially as pennski is on a panel at 6pm!) We're really looking forward to seeing you (roughly translated - don't even think about not going!)

I also have a panel at 6pm tomorrow. I was just on the very verge of crying "Cool! Let's have dinner after!" when I remembered that I have another panel at 8pm. Schedulers hate me, I find...

I'm sure we'll manage to fit dinner in at some point over the weekend!

I've got a panel at 10pm tomorrow. I hope no one is expecting 'sensible' at that time!

Eastercon will happen again, but the optimum time for fixing your hand won't.

But you absolutely must go to Eastercon because I'm going to buy you a flagon of Black Sheep ale.

Ooh, are you? That'll be nice... (D'you know the story, why Black Sheep is called Black Sheep, etc?)

Isn't it to do with the guy who set it up being, like, the black sheep of the old Theakston brewing family?

Yup. In the sense of not selling out like the rest of the family...

Please don't cancel. I'm having trouble motivating me at the moment, and knowing I'll see you is helping.

Noooo! You can't stay home from Eastercon - you are the only reason I'm not petrified by tomorrow's panel! (See? You have a Moral Responsibility! So there! ;p )

But I bought some black jeans specially so I can look like you...
Also, we owe you dinner. (We do. There are Reasons.)

Hee. Did you? Then I do, obviously, have an Obligation... (Oops: I suffered a momentary temptation there to call him Jean de Nîmes, but that would be ... bad. Fond as I am of hidden puns in fantasy - nobody has ever noticed, but Outremer features Sweet Chestnut, Horse Chestnut and Marron Glacé, inter alia - they do need to be hidden rather better than that.)
