Y'all have seen that photo of the great big bear tree'd by a little cat, right?
That's kind of how I feel, except that the little cat in my case just might be America.
The trees... Well. Yesterday we made our bow to the redwoods, Karen and I.
Not the real old guys this time, not Fangorn-forest where they were young and strong when Jerusalem was a-building; but we went to see our mutual friend
deborahjross and her husband Dave (whose LJ handle, if known, if extant, is not remembered by your reporter at this time, which is something too early in the morning), who live up by Boulder Creek in the high hills where the trees come down to pasture. We went for a walk, and there were trees and trees, mere redwoods, and a little too awesome for me.
Also there was food and tea and a lot of talking; there was Oka the bilingual German Shepherd, and there were cats. Fine cats, two of whom did think it would be a good idea to occupy my lap at once, so long as the other one wasn't there. Alas, they were briefly caught in the illusion of time and space...
And we had to leave, of course, too soon; and wound our slow way out of the hills and back to Sunnyvale. And then alas we suffered a restaurant accident, to whit we went to far too nice a restaurant and ate far too well, and drank a wine or so, and were just suddenly way too tired to go to an evening engagement. As witness, we went home and there was this DVD Karen wanted to show me of naked men with no clothes on because it's art, right, not porn at all, oh yes - and I was Too Tired and falling asleep and went to bed while it was showing, and so I think did she.
And then of course I spent half the night awake, because one must be punished; and now I am promised forth, and have to catch a train to San Francisco. On my own. Eep.
*can do this*
*feels like a bear up a tree, peering down with a modicum of anxiety*
