Frustratey cats are frustratey

desperanceFour ducks! That's two each! (Cats can work out fair shares. At least, these two can. They are punctilious about it.) (Have I told you how cats count? They go "nose, ears, nose-and-ears, paws, whiskers! Which is a very big number, and should probably be run away from...")
Trouble is, these ducks are in a bag, hanging from a hook. They can jump up and grip the bag, but then they don't have a paw free to work it open wide enough to get their heads inside.
They would undoubtedly work out a way around this, but I aim to have the birds broken down and redistributed before then.
What do I need to do today?
1. Make a list. (Blogger is meta!)
2. Break down the ducks to their component parts.
3. Put the legs up in salt and juniper and aromatic herbs, for confit.
4. Find somewhere cool and cat-safe to leave the legs overnight.
5. Smoke half the breasts in tea and lemon sugar.
6. Put the breasts wherever I put the legs.
7. Skin and roast the carcases for stock.
8. Make stock.
9. Make spelt-and-rye bread, for those with wheat sensitivity.
10. Make mushroom-and-chestnut forcemeat.
11. Make duck-and-mushroom terrine.
12. Make duckliver mousse, for those who don't eat pork.
13. Invent duck scratchings, with saved skin.
14. Make sourdough dough, and leave sitting overnight beside the duckbits.
15. Make chocolate duck-egg custards.
16. Figure out what else I have forgotten.
(Also, somewhere in there, I should probably have lunch...)
