Also, it occurs to me that my show-off arts come with a degree of distance. I make the thing in solitude, and then send it away. I'm really uncomfortable, watching someone read my work (if they know I'm watching); I love food and I love my friends, but I'd almost - almost! - rather stay in the kitchen than join them at the table. I never know what to do with compliments; and I get anxious that people will feel I expect them, it's hard to talk about the food without seeming to fish for 'em, and like that. It may indeed be All About Me, but it's not easy.
And yet I enjoy giving public readings. *is full of contradictions*
(Also, the duck breast should've been pinker, and the terrine needs to be re-engineered to stop it disintegrating when sliced; and, and, and...)
