A shopping calamity
Jan. 1st, 2011 05:53 pmShops are closed! On New Year's Day! Who knew?
And why didn't you tell me? For I, I did not know. Clearly. I have exhausted poor Karen today, dragging her first into town and then over the moor to the supermarket, with the promise of exciting retail opportunities in both directions. Both of these promises were unfulfilled. I am appalled. Where is the spirit of enterprise? Where are the empire-builders of yesteryear? They didn't get wherever they are today (not here, all too obviously) by not being open on New Year's Day...
Ect, ect. Actually, I am now in a state of barely-suppressed panic. People are coming tomorrow, and there will be no thing. (I was in fact in the same state of panic before this cataclysm, but now I have something usefully robust to panic about, y'know?)
Still, there will be leftovers. People can eat our leavings. Tonight I am cooking black-eyed peas & ham and cornbread, because K says that it's lucky on New Year's Day. Hopefully it will still be lukewarmingly lucky warmed over on New Year's Day + 1.
In other news, I am not ready. And we're both knackered. Oh wait, that's the same news. *sighs*
