This occurred to me, sometime in mid-air on Monday, and I don't know enough to say either way:

Would an asymmetrical airplane actually fly? If, say, one wing was set forward on the fuselage and the other further back?

My Aerospace Engineer husband would probably say: "Almost anything will fly if you apply enough power". But I'll ask him for a fuller answer. :-D

The short answer is yes. There have been skewed wing designs proposed and prototypes flown. They were posited as a possible super sonic transport - orthogonal position for take off and landing and skewed for high speed/altitude.

As best I can determine the design proved overly complex and difficult to reliably control.
