So our clocks went forward last night. Into a Sunday, as is traditional, so that most people ought not to moan too much about the lost hour because they can make it up with a lie-in.

Me, I am seldom troubled about this; indeed, I sleep so badly and I rise so variously I hardly notice, by and large. Frequently I actually don't notice, until I'm an hour short or an hour early for something.

Today, though? Today, what I notice is (surprise!) the boys. Who are making their usual fuss for tea, an hour shy of their usual teatime - but we're an hour early today all round, so logically speaking they shouldn't start fussing until it actually is on the stroke of teatime. Especially as I had a Sunday lie-in and so they had late breakfast. They can't - surely! - actually tell what the clocks say. And yet, and yet. Here they are, both gathered on my desk being the most unutterable nuisances, agitating for a meal that their little systems can't possibly know to expect yet...

Anyway. In other news, it has been sunny-if-cool today, which is a good thing after the cold grey wet of the last few days. Going out this morning, I was too hot in a jacket; going out this afternoon, I was barely not quite warm enough just in a long-sleeved T-shirt.

And why, you ask, did I go out twice? Because, I answer, the first time I walked a mile across the moor to the supermarket and then forgot what I had gone for. So I had to go back this afternoon. In, happily, nice weather.

(Preserving sugar, since you ask: the kind that doesn't have added pectin, for Sevilles have plenty of their own. This weekend I had been planning to be mostly making marmalade. Tragically, the other thing that I forgot is that I have no jars. Well, no new jars. It's a funny thing: until now, all my makings have gone into old jars and I have not worried. But I have discovered my superpower, which is apparently to make marmalade that will make people who don't like marmalade cry "I really like this! Give me more!"; and as we have established, I don't eat very much marmalade myself, so this is all being made to give away; and apparently I like it better if I can give it away in clean new jars rather than scruffy re-used things with old glue still clinging and dodgy caps. So. Necessity is the mother of invention; I am refining my process. Again. Yesterday, I boiled the oranges, all ignorant of what today would bring. Or not bring. Today I have rough-chopped the oranges and left them to drain; tomorrow I will buy new jars and deseed and depulp and muslinate and fine-chop and boil-with-sugar and so forth, and make marmalade. I don't think anything will suffer, for this extra day. It's just unfortunate that the other other thing I forgot was my intent to document with pictures...)
