...So when I sent Ace the proof corrections just now, I asked if there was any news re the cover, as the book's due out in, what, less than four months now. Haven't heard back from them, but I was prompted to duck onto Amazon just to check the pub date - and behold! I shoulda known. There's the cover.

If anyone's interested, you'll find it here - and I'd be very interested in any feedback. Sorry I can't post it here directly, but I lack fu.

Oh, d'you think? See, I confess I'm troubled, but only because - like the cover for 'Bridge of Dreams' (http://www.amazon.com/Bridge-Dreams-Chaz-Brenchley/dp/0441013244/sr=1-1/qid=1166213456/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-0648937-3099042?ie=UTF8&s=books) - there's nothing about it that says "fantasy" to me. But I'm looking with the eyes of a Brit, and a visually moronic one at that; I don't know what Americans are used to, and what they're used to reading into a cover. Which is, of course, why I ask.

My American eyes don't see "fantasy." Like [livejournal.com profile] danjite, I see more Romance than Fantasy.

Damn. I'm wondering if maybe that's why 'Bridge of Dreams' (http://www.sellingwater.com/) didn't get reviewed at all by the genre press, because it too looked so much like a category romance.

You'd think, by now, publishers would know their markets well enough to be able to drop a book somewhere in the target area... Wouldn't you...?

My immediate reaction was "Oh, God... that'll be the American edition then!"

I think the colours and fonts balance beautifully, but the fey youth with the plastic blade? Oh deary deary me.

Sorry.

Frankly, my first thought was: Gay. Gaygaygaygaygay.

My second thought is that it will sell well to the female mainstream readers from 25-60 years of age. It'll move off airport racks.

It has more of a romance flavor, except for the absence of a second person.

I don't get it.

Oh dear.

Gives way to hysteria (with some difficulty, as this laptop lacks the button for the letter H).

Well... it's better than Bridge of Dreams, anyway.

Although I didn't realise that you'd written Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves slash.
