We just had 24 hours without internet. Something big went down in Santa Clara, and kaput!

Extraordinary, that whole sense of rediscovery: oh, this is how we lived in olden times. On Sundays. I went for a bike ride - all the way down to El Camino! In real traffic and everything! I have not reached the level of dangerous overconfidence, but no doubt that is coming. Meanwhile I am supercocky about the ability of my legs to cope with all this pedalling. I thought walking-muscles would be no help at all when it came to biking, but maybe. At any rate, I'm not suffering the way I expected to.

And we sat around and read stuff and snacked on cinnamon/raisin/pecan bread and, y'know. Were like people who actually enjoy each other's company, rather than fleeing to computers at opposite ends of the house. And didn't chew our fingernails in withdrawal at all, oh no. And Karen went to the gym, so we had both done exercise; and we went to Hobee's for lunch and then I went to Lucky's - twice - for supplies for dinner, and then I roasted chickens and so forth, and people came, and it was lovely except that I burned half the things and please somebody tell me how to make a pie that will actually come out of the pie plate? Because we have new pie plates, so we do, from our wedding, and they ought not to cling to the pies like this, and it is driving me crazy. Everyone is very nice about the tastingness, but even so. Snarl. I blame America; this never happened to me in the UK.

And now we have the internets back, so phew. 24 hours is quite long enough, thank you. *demonstrates fingernails, gnawed to the knuckle*
