The revolution will not be medicated

desperanceSo I went to the dentist today, and then to the pharmacy - on my bike! which I locked with my lock! - and after ENDLESS STRUGGLE with insurance bewilderments on both sides of the counter (jesuspeoplewhydon'tyouhavearevolutionthisisnowaytotakecareofsickpeople, etc) I now have antibiotics. Special bone-seeking antibiotics, which I think is deeply cool. Little self-guiding missiles in my blood. Which, by the way, the dentist doesn't really think will help, but as he says we have nothing to lose at this point, because the next step is that the tooth comes out. Sigh. Just call me Gap-Toothed Charlie.
And now I'm home, and the good news is that I'm not off alcohol. I did ask, for I am good that way; and the nice pharmacy lady said "We're supposed to advise against it, very strongly; but it's not because the alcohol interferes with the medicine. It's only that it dehydrates you, which can give the bacteria a chance to multiply instead of dying off. So we're really supposed to say don't drink; but" - she paused, clearly to take in my Englishness and hence undoubted intake and very possible dependency - "oh,just hydrate well." She practically said Enjoy.
So. Yesterday I roasted a couple of chickens, and we discovered a whole other batch of smoke alarms we didn't know we had until I tripped 'em; and we only ate one despite being five of us, so Jeannie's coming back tonight and we'll eat the other one. And drink lots. And Karen will remind me to keep the water-level topped up, because I'm bad about that if left to my own devices and desires.
In other news, I'm not really sure that there is any.
