A question! Of, um, geometry?

Okay, people, my people: what is the technical scientifiterm for that orange-segment shape, flat on two sides and rounded on the back? And is there an immutable law that says when tossed into a pan a thing of that shape must always land on its rounded back, or is it just seeming to be so because I so want them to land on a flat side?
