Software, you have delighted us enough...
Sep. 15th, 2013 10:31 pmSo I'm following a forum discussion thread about the Sony Vaio Pro, aka the Laptop of Utterable Delights, and one of the incensed knotheads just made a thoroughly insensitive and frankly racist post which I rather wish a human moderator had simply deleted; but at the same time a less respectful part of me is giggling madly, because the overcautious moderation software in place has carefully edited a mention of Fukushima into ******shima. Which leaves the comment still racist and still offensive, but at the same time ridiculous.
Reminds me of my copy of George Orwell's Down and Out in Paris and London, a paperback from the '50s: where the author's solemn discussion of the different uses of different swear-words on the street is rendered entirely meaningless by each word's being rendered only as asterisks.
