Inevitability
Sep. 23rd, 2013 04:40 pmI was skinning and boning chicken legs. The boys were here to help.
And it came to pass that Mac -
Actually I hardly need go on, need I? If you've been paying any kind of attention over the last number of years, you pretty much know what happened.
Oh, all right: if you want the details...
In order to remove Mac from his position of Most Helpfulness, up on top of the stove*, I laid down the particular leg I was stripping: on top of my hypersharp Shun knife, because there is never enough room in any kitchen of mine to put anything down except on top of something else.
Once I had restored Mac to the flooring, I reached to pick up the chicken leg, and my fingers of course curled beneath it, and one tip just brushed the edge of the blade, and -
Yup, it bled most satisfactorily, thanks.
I can think of no way by which this accident might have been averted. The lesson we must draw, I believe, is that an interpolatory cat is always sufficient excuse for any idiocy of one's own part.
*No, none of the burners was alight at the time. This time. That does not always deter him.
