EtA: okay, so guess what I did...?
Oct. 27th, 2013 03:36 pmYup. I moved the compost heap. Because I'm lazy, largely. Digging out the compacted layers of humus on hands and knees was just too much like work. So I shifted all the decaying turves, and raked the soil out flat, and lifted off the compost bin and set it down anew, and heaed armsful of dead & decaying matter from hither to yon until I was down to what looks like good black compost, where it'll be easy to get at it with a spade. Yay me.
Then I washed my hands and feet (for yes, we are still in T-shirt and sandals weather, whatever the cats may tell you), and any minute now I shall go out again and plant a pound of fava beans. (It's very odd. Common Ground sells cover/compost crops at this time of year, including fava beans, which yield a crop as well as compostable matter; but they sell their beans at $2 a quarter-cup, or $5.50 a pound. Why would anybody not buy a pound? I'm not clear quite how many quarter-cups there are in a pound of beans, but it's up over a dozen. You do the math*.)
*See how American I am becoming? I swear, no one in England will contrive to understand me.
