Like all the cool kids hereabouts, I have a Fitbit now to count my steps for me. This will free up for other tasks that part of my conscious mind that was previously dedicated to step-counting: yay technology.

Sadly, there appears to be no iteration of the Fitbit driver for Linux; neither will the device sync with my outdated Android. I'll be obliged to use Windows, therefore; just as well I have the Laptop of Utterable Delights still set up that way. This seems ... oddly shoddy, for a gadget quite so hip as the Fitbit, but there it is. Mute in the face of variance.

So, yup: I have a band around my wrist again, first time in a while. Don't nobody ask what the time is; it'll be two thousand steps since the last time I looked, and you all know how fast I walk.

In today's more significant news, I have finally identified the bird that perches on our sprinkler-head in the back yard, to the Utter Outrage of certain residents hereabouts. It is a Black Phoebe, which is a name I find as charming as the bird; and a member of the Tyrant Flycatcher family, ditto ditto. Miss Phoebe Tyrant Flycatcher, on the arm of her latest beau...*

I need to fetch more coffee, but I don't want to walk through to the kitchen until my Fitbit has finished charging; all those steps, going to lamentable waste, ah me. How far have I walked in my life, unquantified?

(If I'm going to count steps, I should probably go back to counting words too. And reporting them. Maybe when I get back from the UK, when everything will undoubtedly be different?)

*Black Phoebe is of course her piratical alter ego. Hush.
