Cat Situation Report #01

Ooh, look - almost-live cat-introductory blogging!

Mac is here, Kevin has gone. Barry is - well, fascinated, largely. Mac is much more self-possessed than I'd expected, Barry is far less aggressive; indeed, the only hissing has come from Mac, when Barry invades his personal space just that little too far. Two feet away is okay, one is not; so two feet away is where Barry is staying, alternately creeping around behind as Mac explores, or just sitting and staring when Mac gets backed into a corner.

At the moment, they're in the cupboard under the stairs, a classic cat-space if ever there was one. Mac is cornered, but more or less by his own choice; I guess there's a security in two walls at your back. We'll see how things go, but right now I am very relieved that there's been no open warfare, indeed really no hostility. I don't quite dare to be hopeful yet, but things are looking good.

So,incidentally, is Mac; he may not be black, but he's a very pretty cat. Photos to follow...

That's great news! It sounds like Mac might turn out to be the dominant one. Just give them time, space and quiet and they will work things out. Keep your ears open for a spat, but it sounds like it might not be too bad at all.

Okay, have now shut them into dining-room & kitchen, behind the one door which I don't think Barry can actually open. Mac may of course be smarter. Or maybe they'll cooperate. Which would be fine, actually (even if they cooperate on the fridge door instead), but absent that, they have space to hole up and space to socialise, they have litter & water, they have peace and quiet. I'll leave them alone for an hour or two, unless there is actual squalling... (But already I want to peek, see what they're up to...)

LOL! Leave them be for an hour or so then let them out so Mac can explore and Barry can pester him. It sounds like they are doing magnificently.

So far so good. And a non-black cat? Is hair dye too cruel?

Hair dye is for hyoomanses. Fur dye is considered unnecessary; all cats are the most beautiful cat in the world. Sincerely. Black is still best, of course, but it is best among equals.

(Am I convincing anyone? Non-black cat. Gulp.)
