As you know, every now and then I think about a food blog, in a seriously-committed kind of way.

It just struck me this morning, here is a perfect opportunity to practise, to see if I stand any chance of maintaining it on a regular basis. I could run a blog series here, An Alphabet of Eating (Observ'd in Inversion): a weekly entry documenting what I feed to friends on Wednesdays, working up the alphabet from Z. Which would, of course, stand for Zhug.

Coming about onto another tack: if I had a few hundred dollars to spend, should I have the bike thoroughly serviced (it needs a new saddle and new grips, and some serious attention to the gears, that much at least, for I am crap at maintenance); or buy a smoker; or buy an entry-level serious camera, a DSLR, with a view to taking better photos of my food, with half an eye on that eventual food blog?

Bike. Because you'll kick yourself if you run up future bills for the bike and at the same time, lack a fully functional bike. Second would be a camera (I'm biased).

Bike would definitely be better for you, camera eventually for the food spectators among us.

So: Bike, as the value of the other alternative depends on your continued health.

Meantime, less good quality food photos? Of excellent quality food, of course...

I vote for the bike maintenance. The cost of not doing it could be catastrophic failure. Moreover, given sufficient time, patience, and email alerts, you can probably find the smoker and camera used on Craigslist.
