...but it is such an obvious question! Little human face, and that great big horse-body full of horsey blood - how can people not have considered this before...?

There's the human chest to consider, though. Is there a separate lot of human blood vessels with human blood there, or what?

I'm thinking not: one circulatory system, one blood, driven by one big pumping horsey heart. Oxygenated by one big pair of horsey lungs (tho' maybe with a secondary set in the human chest-cavity, that maybe don't actually oxygenate the blood at all but only function as windbags to talk with. For fine control, and to forestall bellowing...).
