Since the first couple of days, when I lingered until they'd finished to make sure they didn't fight over food, I've been giving the cats their meals and leaving them to eat in peace.

Today, I went back into the kitchen for whyever, just after Mac had left it; and I found Barry face down in Mac's chow, finishing off. So I picked him up, and Mac went straight back to his abandoned breakfast. I guess this means I have to hang around hereafter, to make sure they both get fair shares (tiresome, they are!) - but the big question is, if Mac chases Barry all over the show and B just squeals and runs away, but Barry can muscle Mac away from his food without any argument from the youngster, which one's dominant...?

Barry gets him to do the chasing to tire him out before the main battle for food. Napoleon and Rommel did the same thing, though they never had to face hungry cats, which would be an interesting match-up for an alternate military history.

We have taken to measuring our cats' food and feeding them in separate bowls, then watching over them and removing the food when they're done. The fatter of them has lost somewhat more than two pounds (and she's not a very big cat), and the less fat has lost at least half a pound, maybe more. We feed them 2 or 3 times a day, and it seems to be working out pretty well.

When it comes to sleeping arrangements, which one makes the other one move so that he can have the now warm spot? Which one normally pins the other one to wash his head?

True love waits; they are so not sleeping together. Getting closer, though: these last few mornings, I wake up to find them both on the bed, within about two feet of each other. Then they wake up, and look at each other for a while; then Mac leaps on top of Barry, and they roll around, and B squawls and runs away, and Mac chases after him.

This can also happen at 4am. Snarl.

Washing each other? Not yet happened. The girls used to do that, they practised mutual bathing as a martial art; but they were sisters, which I guess makes a difference.

Then I'm guessing dominance is still up in the air.
