I have planned my lunch. I am going to heap mayonnaise (yes, yes, I make my own; yes, it is stiff enough to heap) and sweet'n'crunchy saladstuff on a thick slice of really good granary bread. I am going to fry the best black pudding in Newcastle in butter until crisp; I am going to fry cubes of apple in the same butter until soft. They will sit atop the assemblage. Then, over all, I am going to break a lightly-poached organic free-range fetishistic egg; I am going to top everything with another slice of granary; and then I am going to eat it, two-handed and messily, while fighting cats off with my feet.

It's going to be amazing.

This, largely, is how I have passed my morning: conceiving, plotting and planning my lunch. Live to eat, that's what I say.

Believe me, if I lived closer, I'd be joining the cats. It sounds fantastic.

Sadly, I shall be idly scouring the fridge, considering the leftovers (mostly walnut and lentil loaf, I think) and wondering what to do to them to make them seem interesting.

(I also make my own mayonnaise; but this is clearly a day to have made mayonnaise rather than to be making it.)

Enjoy...

What constitutes good breakfast, for a Scandasotan?

For this Scandosotan? I'm a breakfast slut. I like breakfast conceptually, not just a few examples of it. I don't like savory things like eggs and meat for breakfast (although there's enough Scando- in this Scandosotan that cheese is still a reasonable breakfast food, with bread or knackebrod), but I like them later in the day as brunch or breakfast-for-dinner.

My typical breakfast is a flour tortilla spread with Nutella (topped with sliced strawberries on a particularly fine morning), but I also like cold cereal, berries, bananas, grapefruit, nuts, hot cereal, toast, muffins, scones, pancakes, French toast, waffles, yogurt....

How odd, I had not realized tortillas figured so strongly as ancestral food for you!

That part is from Southwestern Norway. Far, far Southwestern.

Seriously? Tortillas look like lefse and serve many of the same culinary functions.

Black pudding and mayonnaise? Iron man!

Not to mention the lightly-poached egg, because we know that I am simply Wrong on such matters.

Still alive! Also, yum. I'm probably delicious myself, after that; no wonder the cats keep trying to eat me...

We always joke that our cat--Lilly--is just waiting for us to drop dead, so she can eat our eyes :)

I was too lazy to use them at first, but they can be useful when looking for specific older posts, so I am trying harder now. It was the book reviews that convinced me tags were A Good Thing.

You only need to be here. Lunch is for everyone who turns up at lunchtime. Except the cats, obviously. They just help themselves...
