I do understand about jobs, really I do. People have to have them, and if they want nice ones, sometimes they have to go elsewhere to find them. I get that.

I just hate the going-elsewhere element, when it means that my circle of nearby friends diminishes. It's been going on for years, by ones and twos; I have sat here and watched my world fray away.

You will gather that it's happening again. They broke the news to me this weekend, that two of my close friends are off, before the next academic year. Promotion, kudos, dosh, all of that good stuff. I begrudge none of it, of course: just the absence.

Hell, man, I have been self-employed for nigh on a dozen years and have to submit to being employed in order to get a visa for my next expatriation.

How does one write a resume to cover a dozen years of entrepreneurship?

Grief. They won't let you into NZ unless you have a job? That's unholy. And I don't know the answer to your question. Ideally, of course, one would simply murmur one's bank balance in a contemptuous tone, and let the numbers do the talking...

Indeed, I have the cats. Who keep trying to leave me, but I lock the doors. *g*
