It's half-five, which means it's time to crack open a bottle of wine and sit down to an hour or two of intensive writing-time.

I was just downstairs in pursuit of the party of the first part, and it struck me - right there, with my corkscrew in my hand - that I really didn't want to do either part of this, but most particularly that one. It's not the writing, it's the wine. What I really want to do is make a pot of white tea and sit in my chair and read a book.

Y'know? I think I might do that. Just for a bit.

And did you? Are you, in fact, still there?

Erm, honestly...? No, I didn't. I opened a bottle of wine and did an hour's work; then I made a pot of tea and read a book before dinner. Maybe I like this book better than I think I do? I can't seem to stop working on it...

Darling, the point of freelancing is to be on your own schedule. If you want to drink tea and read a book, you do so. If and when you want to open your wine and write, you do it then. You're on YOUR schedule, and you can change it to suit your moods and needs.
