I ganked this from
sovay, who had it from
docbrite, who... Well, you get the picture. That's the definition of a meme, at least in LJ. And it's a long one without pretties, so I'll put it
1. What is the soundtrack for this LJ?
Fighting cats and traffic, largely. No music in the office, thanks.
2. What's bothering you right now?
Usual stuff: halfway through this new book, which is meant to be a Whole New Beginning for me, and I'm doing all the same old things. The wrong words in the wrong order, like that. And my house is disintegrating around me, and I have no money to fix it. And I have no money. And my cats hate each other. And...
3. Do you close the door when you are sleeping?
Noooo! How would the cats come and go? (Well, actually Barry would open the door, but...)
4. What is in your wallet?
Many maxed-out credit cards, not enough honest cash. Also, deductable receipts, train tickets, etc; prescriptions; membership cards for the Society of Authors, the Lit & Phil and the city library; contact details for people whose names, points and purposes I no longer remember; keys for houses I am no longer entitled to enter, and my lucky silver dollar. Which I have been carrying on my person since my-cousin-the-famous-astronomer sent it to me in 1972 (it commemorates a moon landing: the eagle landing on the moon with an olive branch in its beak).
5. Wallpaper on your computer's desktop?
My late cat Sophie, in bed of a morning.
6. Background on your cell phone?
I don't have such a thing.
7. Next time you will kiss someone?
If I knew that, where would be the fun of it?
8. Where was your default picture taken?
It's a detail from the cover of my novel 'Dispossession'; my editor spent all afternoon checking out gorgeous young men with their shirts off. Weirdly, she neglected to invite me along.
9. Eyes:
Formerly yellow, now sort of swampy: bits of green and brown, generally hazel.
10. Life:
Don't talk to me about life.
11. House:
Leaks and creaks and I don't take proper care of it. If it had any sense, it'd leave me.
12. Doing this weekend?
Working, I hope.
13. Wearing?
Black.
14. Who was the last person to send you a text message?
No one ever has (see above, under 'no cellphone').
15. If you could have one thing right now what would it be?
A vast amount of money?
16. Listening to?
As above: the hum of computer fans, cars outside.
17. Ever kissed someone named John?
Whoo, yeah.
18. What do you smell like?
Right now, spicy: I've been cooking. No surprise there, then.
19. Eating?
Still have the flavours of lunch in my mouth, so no.
20. Favorite thing on your bed:
That would be a cat.
21. Do you believe in a soul mate?
For other people, sometimes, yes. Me? No.
22. What do you wear to bed?
Nothing.
23. Do you remember your dreams?
Sometimes, but I no longer make any effort to; they don't interest me that much. (NB - other people's dreams? Don't interest me at all. Do not tell me your dreams.)
24. Do you burn easily in the sun?
Yup. Doesn't keep me in, though. Love the sun. Can't right now remember what it looks like, but I do know that I love it.
25. Have you ever been gambling?
No. I'm incapable. I have had friends drag me into bookies to make a bet on the National, I've even had them thrust fivers into my hand for the purpose, and I cannot do it. Why would I want to give my money to strangers? I understand odds, see...
26. What's something you wish you could understand better?
Uh, the universe? As expressed in terms of scientific knowledge?
27. What did you do last weekend?
[pauses, to check wallchart] Went to Sunderland, to stay with Bryan and Mary Talbot. Showed someone round the sculptures I used to work on (my words! in concrete, steel and stone!). Ate and drank and talked lots. Like that.
28. Who do you miss?
Too many to list. Almost everyone I've been close to is either dead or gone; I miss them all.
29. Who is the last girl you hugged?
She wouldn't thank me for telling you, so I shan't.
30. Orange or apple juice?
Grapefruit, for preference. Or tomato, with vodka and all the fixin's.
31. Who was the last person you went somewhere with?
Gail-Nina, Sue,
shewhomust,
durham_rambler.
32. What was the last text message you sent?
As above: never sent one.
33. Have you kissed anyone on your friendslist?
Yes, thanks.
34. Last time you ate a homegrown tomato?
That would be last year.
36. What was the last thing you drank?
Chung hao. It's a jasmine oolong, with blossoms.
37. Whose house did you go to last night?
No one's but my own.
38. Who was the last person you visited in the hospital?
Again, that's too personal; I don't have consent.
39. Do you like someone right now?
As it happens, I do.
40. What do you wear more, slacks, jeans, or sweatpants?
Jeans. Always.
41. What is the last movie you watched? With who?
Oh, lor'. Was it the abominable Potter? Might have been. With Gail-Nina, if so. Afterwards, we drank.
42. Name 3 drinks you regularly drink:
Coffee, Chinese tea, wine. In that order, through the day.
43. What are you excited about?
[shrugs]
44. Do you want someone you can't have?
As ever. See above, under 'dead' and 'gone'.
45. Who was last to slap your butt?
Again, I'm not entitled to confess on his behalf.
46. Where was the last place you went?
The Happiness Inn. Not, alas, The Inn of the Sixth Happiness, where I would much rather have been.
47. What's on your mind right now?
Everything that was bothering me in question 2 is still bothering me, oddly.
48. Have you cried recently?
No.
49. When you think of your crush, who is it?
You wouldn't know him.
50. Is taking a shower a daily habit?
No shower in this house; I take baths. Nightly, yes.
