Okay, this is odd: my chest hurts. Badly.
Nothing so much odd about that, you think? Man with bad asthma, history of chest infections, all that stuff? Yup, I know - but it's been the same for the last three days, that my chest really hurts in late afternoon. Starts up about three o'clock, is horrid by five, ebbs away an hour later and is okay by seven.
An hour ago, I was wondering just how ill I was, whether I should talk to someone about it. Right now? Much easier, thanks. And all I've done from then to this is drink. I know a million ways that wine is good for you, but as a bronchodilator/analgesic? Not so much, I fancy.
Tho', now I come to think of it, five o'clock is just when I start drinking of an evening. Hmm...
In other news: tomorrow evening! Peterborough Central Library! Me, Pat Cadigan, Amanda Hemingway, Ian Watson, Andy West, Ian Whates! (Thinks: good lord, that came out alphabetical! Even me! Pure coincidence...) Launching new book, disLOCATIONS! Be there if you can, it'll be a great evening...

Date: 2007-08-12 05:01 pm (UTC)I'm overreacting because yesterday I got to hear the story of how a friend of mine showed up at an rpg session displaying the classic symptoms of a stroke but insisted on 1: finishing the session before going to the hospital and 2: driving himself.
As it turns out, he was displaying the classic symptoms of a stroke because he had in fact had a stroke. Only about 45, too.

It's way too long since I've done a first aid course, but I do not like the sound of this, and it's possible it's a heart problem rather than an asthma problem. Either way, it's something that needs to be looked at if you don't have a clear reason for it such as an obvious chest infection.

Date: 2007-08-12 05:43 pm (UTC)It's amazing how many of the tragic medical stories I've heard in the last little while included "diabetic" and "didn't manage his diet correctly," and yes, it's pretty much always the men who bungle this particular hurdle. Michael's house had boxes of chocolate laying around: he used his insulin to hammer his blood sugar back into place when he felt it was necessary.
