Also, I came home to find a gentle reminder in my e-mail, that I had promised to deliver a short story. Before the end of this month. Eek.

Happily, I have characters to hand, who are known to have secrets: a couple of eunuchs from 'Selling Water by the River' used to go off for midnight excursions and never really said where they went or what they did. As they haven't said, I do of course have no idea my own self where they went or what they did; here is the perfect chance for them to 'fess up.

I have sent them on their way, and am following with interest.

Ah, procrastination... I learned the word when I was eight, when my class teacher introduced it to the whole class with me as the exemplar. So yup, it's been a defining feature of my life. To be fair to myself, though, I have been trying to eliminate it from my professional life. The greater problem these days - as in this instance - is simple forgetfulness. I have no functional memory, so I still need just as much prompting as ever.

I tend to accumulate sheets of paper with To Dos on them. Sometimes I manage to cross all of them off before starting a new sheet. More often, it disappears into the pile of kibble around the computer, only to re-surface when Other Half suggests mildly that it's time I made the room look less like the municipal tip.

Today's second To Do is to see if the jobs I meant to apply for last week are still open [sigh].

Lucky you! And lucky eunuchs. - But what if they don't go anywhere interesting?? What if they just talk and talk for pages and you have to throw those hours of work out and then what you come up with is really stupid and and and---

I'm with you both on the procrastination and the memory, fella. Good luck!

Thank you kindly. I'm fairly confident about finding a story; a curious teenager and a wise old dwarf are safe to turn up some kind of trouble. At present they seem to be sneaking out of the harem to spend the night in a hammam down the rough end of town, where the freaks and the felons and the mutants hang out. That may be as far as they get today (there is alcohol in my imminent future, maybe smoky drugs in theirs), but it's a base to work from...
