Don't forget, those of you in striking distance of Chesterfield: you can find me in the bar of the Pomegranate Theatre at 7.30 on Monday night (29th), together with Christine Poulson, reading from the Phobic anthology. Yay!

The bad news: I don't think I'll have this book finished by then. Which I was kind of hoping for.

On the Sunday following, Nov 4th, I'll be reading at the Blue Room (upstairs in the Bridge Hotel, Newcastle) from 8.00pm, with various others. Do come.

The bad news: I don't think I'll have this book finished by then, either. It's an octopus: it has too many arms, and it clings.

You have reached the Novelist's Event Horizon, a stage where you know the book *has* an end, but everything you do seems to make it move just a little further away....

That's the very one. The one with the huge gravitic suck at its heart, 500 pages of crap tuggin' you down into the maelstrom while your fingers desperately clutch and clutch and all you do is pull down more and more pages of sucky crap, and...

(And I think I was halfway through a metaphor-shift there, coming much closer to ant-lions and that thingie in the pit in "Return of the Jedi"; and it's always wise to know when to stop, even if it was actually fifty words ago...)
