Tired now

So last evening's work, as we know, was lost to sick kitty; and this morning's...?

This morning I walked a mile in the rain to deliver Mac's urine sample to the vet (I has dun pee! I can comes out of Durance Vile nao?), and then, oh, several miles in the opposite direction, in order to collect my delivery of teas from the Tea-Elf in Lincoln.* (Not sure why they call it a delivery when you have to walk miles to collect it, but hey...) While I was there I did also buy pounds of cherry tomatoes (roasted-tomato-and-garlic soup!) and also mushrooms (more soup!) and a loaf of sourdough (to eat! with soup!) and a teapot (to brew new teas! between soups!). But still, miles. Rain. Like that.

So there went this morning, quite unworked. I do still have this afternoon, of course; but my feet hurt, and my head is still full of cold, and I am without enthusiasm for the task. And I have a very comfortable sofa, and two cats, and the makings of a fine hot toddy, and a Scott Lynch to finish and no doubt other books to start, and there might be a movie on TV, and...

*Since you ask, here is a list of this round of teas. All Chinese.

Russian Caravan
Tarry Lapsang Crocodile
Gunpowder Special Temple of Heaven
Dao Ren Mountain Green
Chung Hao (my favourite jasmine)
Water Sprite Phoenix
Tea of Life (which is the house white)

That makes me want to place an order with Stash Teas. Mmm.

The teas sound exciting! I feel boring with my Redbush and tetley...

Oh, I love Russian Caravan!

I have far, far too much tea. I mean, not that you can really have too much tea (like you can't really have too many books) cvvvvvvvvvvvv (Ha, that there was the commentary of Hero, our tabby). But I keep drinking it & drinking it & my stash seems to be the same size. Perhaps it's magic tea.

It's a bit disheartening to see that slogging thru the rain isn't something you get used to, living in England. Alas!

Trust me, you really can't have too much tea. I am but an amateur and a neophyte at that; the man who turned me on to proper tea (he who is referred to in this journal as the Tea-Elf) has a shop in Lincoln with I-know-not-how-many teas, and he drinks his way round the entire stock every year, just to make sure everything's up to scratch.

And he lets me drink from his cup. Further, deponent sayeth not.

Ah, a variety of teas. Happy sigh.

Mind you, I all too often default to the "cuppatea" which is usually fairtrade Indian with rice milk.

That's the default position (well, without the rice milk. Rice milk...?) that I abandoned when I went all gotta-cut-down-on-the-dairy. Straight into Chinese tea I plunged, and I have not yet come up for air. Finding the Tea-Elf didn't half help, mind...

Rice milk is what I use instead of dairy. It means I can still drink indian tea.

It tastes not entirely unlike cow milk, and is therefore acceptable on cereal and in tea or coffee. It comes in 1 litre UHT cartons in supermarkets and some varieties have extra flavours (vanilla and hazelnut being the most usual) which are ok with coffee but just plain wrong with tea.

My other half is lactose intolerant, and used to have the chocolate flavour rice milk.

I'm tea-dependent. When I was being weaned my parents put weak tea in my bottle, thereby leading to my lifelong caffeine addiction. My late father made his own blend of china and Darjeeling, which I've never managed to replicate because his old pusher (sorry, tea merchant) closed down - the darjeeling gave the top-notes, the china the bass note.

What a lovely business obligation!
